Professional Career and Experience

Soraia Marques is a seasoned legal practitioner providing counsel to both private and public sector clients in Timor-Leste and Portugal. Her main areas of practice include Public Law and Dispute Resolution. Soraia is particularly experienced in regulatory advisory, administrative litigation, and cross-border transactions involving Lusophone jurisdictions.
Soraia joined JLA in 2017, following her experience at CRA Timor – Advogados, in Dili. Prior to that, she practiced law in Lisbon at Coelho Ribeiro e Associados, where she trained and subsequently worked as a lawyer.
Soraia holds a LL.B from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and a Master degree in Administrative Law from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Lisbon. Soraia has also pursued advanced postgraduate studies in Science of Legislation at the University of Lisbon, as well as in Public Procurement and Contracting at the University of Coimbra.
Soraia is a Fellow of  the International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Soraia is admitted to practice law in both Timor-Leste and Portugal. In addition to her legal work, Soraia serves as the Head of the Timor-Leste branch of IBDFAM – Brazilian Institute of Family Law and is an active member of the International Association of Young Portuguese-Speaking Lawyers (JALP).
She works fluently in Portuguese, English, and Tetum.
